Climate

Ukraine has a mostly temperate continental climate, although a more Mediterranean climate is found on the southern Crimean coast. Winters vary from cool along the Black Sea to cold farther inland. Average temperature ranges in the northeast are from –8°C (18°F) in January to 29°C (85°F) in July while in the south they range from –2°C (28°F) in January to 32°C (90°F) in July. 

Administrative division

Ukraine is subdivided into twenty-four provinces (oblasts ) and one autonomous republic (avtonomna respublika), Crimea. Additionally, the cities of Kiev, the capital, and Sevastopol, both have a special legal status. The 24 provinces and Crimea are subdivided into 490districts (raions), or second-level administrative units.
