Climate

The climate of Greece is primarily Mediterranean, featuring mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. In the summer the Etesian, a northerly wind, blows across the Aegean Sea while in the mountainous areas, temperatures are generally cooler with severe winter temperatures and heavy rainfall. Average temperature ranges in Athens are from 6 to 13°C (43 to 55°F) in February to 23 to 33°C (73 to 91°F) in August.

Administrative division

Greece consists of thirteen regions subdivided into a total of 325 municipalities. The 54 old prefectures and prefecture-level administrations have been largely retained as sub-units of the regions.There is also one autonomous area, Mount Athos.
