“Brazilian” buttock lift

What is the “Brazilian” buttock lift?

The “Brazilian” buttock lift is a type of buttock augmentation with patient’s own body fat. Fat injection achieves a more natural result, has a lower risk of infection, and also contours the areas around the buttocks to enhance the overall effect and results in a youthful, prominent, perky buttocks and a more sensual body profile.

What is the procedure?

The surgeon removes fat from selected areas of your body, purifies the fat, then re-injects selected donor fat cells into your buttocks. The process of fat reinjection involves scores or hundreds of injections. The procedure is designed to fill the upper quadrant of your buttocks so that the butt appears lifted and perky.

The most popular areas for liposuction before buttock augmentation are the lower back, waist, flanks (love handles), thighs and stomach. The fat suctioned from these areas is carefully processed and purified such that only a fraction of the donor fat removed will qualify for re-injection to the buttocks. The fat is placed or transferred to the buttocks with special cannulas. The surgeon injects small amounts of purified fat into different areas of the buttocks and at various depths so that the patient will get the highest permanent absorption rate. Thus, the procedure usually involves 'hundreds' of micro fat injections. Correct injection methods are essential to achieve a uniform, smooth, natural appearance to the buttocks.

What kind of result can you expect?

The results of Brazilian buttock lift surgery are immediately visible. However, the shape continues to improve over 3-6 months as the swelling resolves. Patients wear compression garments for about 4 weeks to decrease swelling and help the skin to tighten in the areas that liposuction has been performed.

If the fat is harvested, processed, and injected correctly, the result should be long lasting. When performed by an experienced surgeon using the proper techniques, buttock augmentation is a highly satisfying and permanent procedure that enhances the profile of the buttocks and surrounding areas for a younger, firmer, curvier look.

Recovery period and recommendations

After buttock augmentation, patients should avoid sitting directly on the buttocks or lying on their backs for two to three weeks to maximize results. During this time, compression garments may be worn to reduce swelling. Patients may experience some pain or discomfort, bruising and swelling after the procedure. Most patients return to work two weeks after their buttock augmentation and are able to resume all normal activities within four weeks. Swelling typically dissipates by the sixth week.

Possible side effects and complications

As with any surgery, there are risks to buttock augmentation. These include: infection, bleeding (hematoma), reaction to the anesthesia, damage to nerves or muscles, poor healing of incisions, changes in sensation – typically temporary, asymmetry, profile loss from buttocks (rare), residual fat in areas liposuctioned, deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications, pain. It is possible that you still won't be satisfied with your appearance after the surgery.
