Temporary filling

What is the Temporary filling?

Temporary filling seals the tooth, protecting the pulp from bacteria and reducing sensitivity. Temporary fillings are not meant to last. They usually fall out, fracture, or wear out within 1 month.

Temporary fillings often contain eugenol, an ingredient in over-the-counter toothache remedies.

When Temporary filling is used?

Temporary fillings generally are used when:
- the treatment requires more than one appointment;
- the dentist wants to wait a short period of time for the tooth to heal;
- patient has a deep cavity and the pulp (containing the nerve and blood vessels) becomes exposed during treatment.
- patient needs emergency dental treatment.
