Invisible teeth aligners

What are the Invisible teeth aligners?

Invisible teeth aligners or invisible teeth braces is a method of orthodontic treatment which uses a series of clear, removable teeth aligners. Invisible aliners is an alternative to traditional metal dental braces.

Different kinds of aligners and braces are available in the market. Most popular are Inman®, Ortho Caps®, MTM®, Invisalign®.

What is the procedure?

Dentists initially take an impression of the patient’s teeth and then prepare customized casts depending on the impression.

Dental aligners can align patient's teeth in their right locations within 2 to 4 weeks. The actual time required depends on the number of aligners that are required for the task.

Advantages and disadvantages of Invisible dental aligners

The main advantages of invisible teeth aligners are:

-  cosmetic value. The aligners are completely transparent, therefore far more difficult to detect than traditional wire and bracket braces.
comfortability. Due to the removable nature of the device, aligners could be removed when eating, drinking or cleaning the teeth. As patients are able to remove the aligners, there are no restrictions on foods that could damage the appliances.
The aligners give less force per week and less pain than do fixed appliances. Treatment with Invisible aligners have been claimed to be quicker than the treatment with traditional orthodontics appliances.
-  reduced negative effects on the gums, roots and supporting tissues, compared to traditional braces.

The main disadvantages of invisible teeth aligners are:

costs. Usually invisible teeth aligners are more expensive than traditional wire and bracket systems.
discipline. Should the patient fail to wear brace in the prescribed length of time, the next brace in the series will not fit and a new set will be needed, incrementing the cost. Since the aligners can be removed, there’s the daily risk they could get lost if not kept in the recommended containers.
not all invisible teeth aligners are suitable for teeth that require vertical movement, such as teeth that are higher in the gum line than other teeth.
