Invisible lingual braces

What are the Invisible Lingual braces?

Invisible lingual braces are braces that are fixed to the inside of the teeth and those brackets and wires are not visible to other people.

With lingual braces each bracket is custom made (from gold or other metal) to fit each tooth inside of a patient’s mouth. Brackets are affixed to the tooth using cement and then an arch wire is placed through them.

Working just like traditional braces, Lingual Braces straigihten a patient’s teeth within the same amount of time metal braces would. Each patient’s timeline depends upon the individual case.

Different kinds of Invisible lingual braces are available in the market. Most popular are iBraces ®, Incognito ®, SureSmile QT ®, In-Ovation ®, Harmony ®.

Advantages and disadvantages of Lingual braces

Lingual braces have several advantages over their traditional counterparts. The main advantage is cosmetic, as Lingual braces aren't visible from the front which makes them an excellent option for patients who wish to avoid the highly-visible traditional braces.

The main disadvantages of Invisible / hidden lingual braces includes:
costs. Usually invisible / hidden lingual braces are more expensive than traditional wire and bracket systems.
comfortability. It takes usually a lot longer to adapt to hidden braces. You can expect to hit them with your tongue as you get used to them and that isn’t going to be comfortable.
cleanliness. Having the brackets on the inside of patient’s teeth makes them more difficult to clean correctly. It takes usually more time to clean teeth and brackets.
